Vintage Little Golden Books: The Little Red Caboose by Marian Potter & Tibor Gergely, 1977

We have a stack of vintage Little Golden Books coming to The Australian Bookish Shop from a private collection, so keep checking back!

In this classic story, the little red caboose always comes last. By the time he reaches all of the girls and boys on the track, they turn away because they have already waved to the flat car and the coal car and the oil car and the boxcar. He longs to be one of those, so he can get a wave. He feels like nobody cares about him.

One day the train goes up a mountain. All of the cars go up the mountainside.  The train goes slower and slower and s-l-o-w-e-r and it looks like it will not make it to the top. Until the little red caboose slams on his brakes, holds on tight to the tracks and stops the train from sliding down the mountain.

Two big engines push him and the rest of the train back up to the top but everyone knows if it wasn’t for the little red caboose, they would not have made it. From that day forward the children save their biggest waves for the little red caboose because he saved the train.

It is in very good vintage condition with no major damage, rips or pen or pencil marks.
