Vintage Silverline Platignum Fountain Pen & Propelling Pencil Set

$79.00

or 4 payments of $19.75 with Afterpay

One for the lover of vintage stationery and collectibles, this is a beautiful Platignum Fountain Pen and Propelling Pencil Set, made in England. Silver and blue. Comes in original box with a groovy pattern and a gold back. We estimate this is a 1960s set.

Pen and pencil appear as new, with no damage visible or marking, but the pen is untested and needs an ink refill. The pencil is working and has a lead inside.

The box has some wear commensurate with its age.

In 1919 Platignum Pen Co. started life as the Mentmore Manufacturing Company, named after its first premises – Mentmore Terrace in London. The company’s first product was a self-filling fountain pen with a gold plated nib. In 1925 the first replacement nib unit was developed – a revolution in pen design. The Platignum name was also introduced, and the slogan ‘As good as gold’ to reflect the use of stainless steel for the first time. Mentmore were anxious to register the name Platinum, but were unable to do so because it could have contravened the laws of product description – as they existed at that time. To overcome the problem, a company was registered in the name of the “Platignum Pen Company” in 1925, and products carrying the brand name “Platignum” were introduced.
